  Outline Course programme

Context and background

The global economic downturn led to a substantial decline in Foreign Direct Investment levels over the last couple of years. Prospects for renewed growth levels of FDI in the nearby future remain uncertain. Investment Consulting Associates - ICA present eight global and regional trends and forecast for FDI that will take place over the next few years.

Combined with decreasing budgets, attracting foreign investments by Zones and Investment Promotion Agencies (IPA's) has become a major challenge. It is therefore critical for those seeking investors to distinguish themselves from their competitors and use efficient lead generation and investor targeting strategies.

The first part of this workshop focuses on the role of business intelligence in attracting investors. The presentation will outline how the site selection process of companies has changed over the last ten years and how Zones and Investment Promotion Organisations can anticipate these developments. This presentation also demonstrates the importance of location benchmarking for Zones and IPA's by taking a corporate perspective and using the web-based benchmarking tool and to support participants in positioning their country as a competitive investment location. The second part of the workshop emphasizes the role of incentives in attracting investors and how to best incentive packages tailored to your target markets and industries. In addition, the presentation highlights a number of best practices.

By demonstrating international best practices and case studies from around the world we will show participants to this workshop how they can achieve excellence in foreign investment attraction.

In addition, depending upon the number of participants we will provide reviews of the websites and social media/communication techniques the Zones and IPAs are currently using and recommendations for the futur. The results will be presented and discussed during the workshop.
